Although they haven't even started filming The Hobbit movie, I'm starting to get psyched so I drew this cartoon on how the dwarves hired a hero to take on their quest. It's inspired by one of Tolkien's background notes where Gandalf reveals the behind-the-scenes of the Unexpected Party. Kind of a literary version of a DVD extra (ahead of his time was J.R.R.). One other note - I initially planned to have the dwarves reject Aragorn because he was too old (he's 130 years old in Lord of the Rings). However, when I dug out my Lord of the Rings timeline, it turns out Aragorn was only 10 years old when the Hobbit quest began. So that threw that gag out the window! :-( This cartoon was archived on 2008-09-08.
