When C3PO played a prominent part in the Star Wars prequels, the question was raised why he didn't remember any of it by Episode 4. George Lucas played it coy, teasing us with a 'you'll see...'. Turns out it was all resolved with a throw-away line at the end of Episode 3, an 'oh yeah, wipe the droid's memory' afterthought. I'm hoping sevilia can come up with a better answer to the mystery.
