Research for me involves a bit of bedtime light reading (usually some easy going popular science like Carl Sagan). In this case, I was lucky enough to bump into a children's book about black holes, where I learnt such fascinating facts as matter entering a black hole results in huge energy explosions (one of the ways they can find a black hole).
