Idiosyncratic umpires are a part of the game but Billy Bowden's carefully engineered signals are gratuitious and ridiculous. His only redeeming quality was his persistence in giving Australian batsmen not out in the 5th day of the 3rd test. What really gets my goat is the way he intrudes on the game which should be about the players - pocketing the ball from Geraint Jones after the 2nd Ashes Test beggars belief. I wouldn't be surprised to see him poking his head in the Australian dressing room after a test victory to join in on the team song. Well, that's off my chest, rant ended. :-) This cartoon was archived on 2005-08-17.
